ITVX is free, and it is the only place to watch ITV1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4 and ITV Quiz live from anywhere. The catch is that it only plays inside the United Kingdom. If you have moved abroad, or you are away for a few months, your account still works and the player still refuses to start.

That last one catches people out. ITV Quiz replaced ITVBe in June 2025, so if you are looking for ITVBe, this is where its slot went. It runs Tipping Point, Lingo, Tenable, Deal or No Deal and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire more or less continuously, and it has grown fast since the switch.
ITV4 is the one most guides forget, and it is the one carrying sport: the Lloyds Tour of Britain and live Speedway both sit there.
Recent and returning: World’s Wildest Cities, the second series of Code of Silence, Trigger Point series four, Tom Kerridge Cooks Italy, Long Lost Family: Born Without Trace, and The Assembly.
Sport is the bigger draw. The FIFA World Cup gave ITVX its best-ever July, with 436 million streams across the month. When ITV holds a tournament, this is where it plays, free, in full.
ITVX Premium costs £5.99 a month, or £59.99 for a year. It gets you the entire BritBox catalogue, downloads, and an ad-free on-demand library.
Read that last part carefully, because it is narrower than it sounds. Ad-free covers the on-demand library only. Live TV still carries ads on Premium. If you are subscribing mainly to watch ITV1 live without breaks, that is not what you are buying.
Premium is also sold as a channel inside Amazon Prime Video, which is a second route to the same thing if you already pay Amazon.
ITV can see roughly where in the world you are connecting from, and it only lets UK viewers in. Its own help pages are blunt about it: you cannot stream live or on-demand shows on ITVX when you are outside the UK, and that applies to Premium too.
There is no holiday allowance. Some European services let you keep watching for a few weeks while you travel. ITV does not. The only thing that survives leaving the country is a download you took before you went, and those are Premium only, phone and tablet only, and they expire after seven days.

If you have moved abroad and no longer have a UK address, use a postcode you have a real connection to: the home you left, or where your family still lives. That is the one that gives you the right region. A postcode picked at random will work, in the sense that the form accepts it, and then you will spend a year watching another part of the country’s news.
One thing ITVX does not ask for: a TV licence declaration. BBC iPlayer makes you confirm you have one before it will play. ITV does not.

Setting it up on the router covers every device in the house at once, including the ones that will not run an app. The same connection also reaches BBC iPlayer, Channel 4, Channel 5 and U, so the router is usually the right answer here.
The odd thing about leaving the UK is how much of what you miss is free. ITVX costs nothing, carries five live channels and a tournament or two a year, and simply will not open once you are past the border. Get the connection right and the whole of it comes back.
