Two things to know before you buy it. Channel 4 says plainly that for contractual reasons some programmes still carry ads or trails even on Channel 4+. And its terms ask that you be a UK resident, a condition the free service does not put on you at all.
So if you have moved abroad for good, the free tier is the one this page is really about. Channel 4+ is worth it if you are away temporarily and still keep a home in the UK.
The free tier is not a stripped-back version. It is the whole service with advertising in it.
Channel 4 can see roughly where in the world you are connecting from, and it only opens to viewers in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The live channels are tighter again, and are meant for UK viewers rather than Irish ones. With a UK connection you get both the on-demand catalogue and the live channels, which is the case this page is about.
There is no holiday allowance. A download you took while you were in the UK will play abroad, but you cannot start a download once you have left, and casting one to a television abroad fails.
