What is discovery+, and how can I watch it?

Discovery+ launched in the USA as Discovery’s video streaming service. An all-in-one platform to view their live-streaming programs and on-demand content.

Already a major player in the UK and across several European locations (previously branded as Dplay), it’s finally available in the US with a low $4.99 US/month subscription.

What’s different about discovery+ is that it delivers content that's purely non-fiction, educational, and reality-based TV entertainment. Real-life programming never looked so good.

It has 55,000 episodes from the network’s iconic brands, the BBC’s Natural History collection, A&E Networks, Group Nine, and more. It promises exclusive originals from renowned specialists and celebrities, including Chip and Joanna Gaines, Sir David Attenborough, David Schwimmer, Will Packer, Kevin Hart, Bobby Flat and Giada De Laurentiis.

At its launch, discovery+ boasted the largest-ever content offering of any streaming service.

That’s quite some claim. Their US catalogue includes original series programming across popular, passion verticals where Discovery brands are industry leaders. These include lifestyle and relationships, home and food, true crime, paranormal, adventure and natural history, as well as science, tech and the environment.

If you’re not convinced, check out the channels they cover and their popular content.

How can I watch discovery+ (formerly Dplay) with StreamLocator?

If you’re not in the US, then it’s more than likely that the discovery+ servers will prevent you from accessing their incredible range of real-life TV content. Here at StreamLocator, we’ve developed what we believe to be the best method of getting around their location blocks by providing you with a virtual US location.

Once discovery+ sees you’re where they need you to be, the doors to all of their unique style of factual entertainment will be wide open for you to access.

No complicated settings or software installation required

When we decided we’d like to derestrict all the international programs, networks, and streaming services for our subscribers, we also decided to make the system as simple as possible for everyone who joined us.

Our first big idea—unlike alternative geoblocking workarounds—is that you shouldn't ever have to download or install any software. You won’t have to remember to switch it on each time you need it, either.

Alternative solutions need you to install their systems on every device that you plan to use. Some require you to apply complicated DNS profiles, that on many devices you won’t have access to or are incredibly tricky to apply.

Our smart hub is the simplest plug-and-play solution you’ll find. Because it works with your WiFi router, it automatically includes all of your iOS and Android smartphones and devices, your Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, and games consoles.

Once it’s plugged in and activated, it’s always on and working in the background. It creates as many connections to as many different services as you need, and it does everything you need without you knowing it’s doing it.

How to watch discovery+ from outside the USA

You must be located in the US to access the American discovery+ live streams and programs. StreamLocator provides you with the virtual location you need to do that. Providing their servers with a US location means that all of their previously inaccessible content is yours for viewing.

The system streaming TV providers use to pinpoint each viewer’s unique location is known as geo-location tracking. The most well-known solutions for navigating these geo-blocks, until recently, have been VPN and Smart DNS services. But now, coming at the problem from a new angle with a range of additional benefits is StreamLocator.

How to register for Discovery Plus from outside the USA

Discovery Plus comes in two subscription options. The basic service price is $4.99 US/month, and then there’s an ad-free option running at $6.99 US/month.

If you don’t have access to an American credit card, StreamLocator has the perfect solution.

Apply for a Statescard.com virtual credit card, and you’ll have access to a pre-paid US credit card with its own US billing address—perfect for paying subscriptions to the many US streaming services on StreamLocator’s system.

It’s easy to set up, and you can load funds to it from your usual credit card or PayPal account.

Do you need a VPN or DNS to watch Discovery Plus from outside the USA?

It doesn’t matter how you deliver a US location to the Discovery Plus servers, just that you do. Both VPN and Smart DNS have provided sufficient workarounds for many US streaming services so far, but as time goes by, these services are getting far savvier when it comes to detecting and blocking them.

StreamLocator keeps you one step ahead. By communicating directly with the system’s servers, it knows precisely how to create the best possible connection. That’s what makes our smart hub incredibly reliable, fast, and efficient.

How to unblock Discovery Plus

Once your StreamLocator smart hub arrives, all you need to do is plug it into your existing WiFi router (using any of its available ports) and follow a few simple steps to activate your subscription account.

With that done, you’ll find a new choice in your WiFi options—STREAMLOCATOR. Switch your devices over, and we’ll take care of the rest. Working continuously in the background, StreamLocator knows when you need a new virtual location, it switches regions automatically and grants you access to the services you need.

Does StreamLocator allow me to watch Discovery Plus for free?

Despite providing such an ingenious workaround for the location blocks, we don’t offer workarounds for subscriptions or anything else. You’ll still have to sign up for one of the price tiers to access their shows, but at such good value for such unique programming, why wouldn’t you?
