We recently updated this article when Dplay rebranded and relaunched as Discovery+. Despite the growing trend of adding a plus symbol to the end of your brand, there’s a lot more to shout about than just a logo and brand-name tweak.

Read on for all our StreamLocator and Discovery+ service updates…

What is Discovery+, and how can I watch it?

Discovery+ (previously Dplay) is the online video-on-demand service, provided by Discovery, Inc. It launched under its original name, QuestOD, in 2018, under the brand of its free TV channels Quest and Quest Red.

In 2019 the service changed the brand name to Dplay, and in November 2020 to discovery+. It features 14 live channels as well as plenty of on-demand content. Catch-up content from their live channels is available for 30 days after their initial airing, so you should never be short of something to watch.

  • HGTV (formerly known as Home)

The service is subscription based, with a flat monthly fee of £4.99 (UK) or a discounted yearly rate. It mixes its pay-TV channels with its free-to-air brands, all neatly packaged in one place.

Discovery Plus still offers a free option, delivering their 6 live free-to-air channels, and a mass of catch-up programs. The free option is ad-funded, so expect to see a few ad-breaks here and there through your programs.

The content concentrates on ‘real-life’ entertainment, and with shows like Aussie Gold Hunters, Paranormal Nightshift, and 90 Day Fiancé, it’s easy to see why so many people are hooked on the reality-style viewing.

Discovery+’s UK audience has continued to grow since its launch, with viewing figures growing every year. With StreamLocator providing you with unlimited access to their shows, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be soaking up all that entertainment too.

How can I watch discovery + with StreamLocator?

With 14 channels of real-life entertainment to choose from, there’s no wonder that so many viewers from outside the United Kingdom are trying to get access to the shows on Discovery+. If you’re outside the UK, however, you’re going to have to get around the regional blocks discovery+ has in place.

With StreamLocator, your worries are over. We provide you with a virtual UK location to give the Discovery + servers precisely what they need, to stream their shows to your device.

No complicated settings or software installation required

We’ve seen how other services that provide workarounds for geo-blocked content expect their subscribers to install all sorts of software, apps, and programs. Worse still, many expect viewers to dig into DNS profiles and settings; all far more complicated processes than most users would ever want to face.

The good news is that StreamLocator needs none of that.

We’ve created a simple plug-and-play system that takes all the hard work out of the process, at every step.

Our smart hub covers all of your Internet-enabled devices. All of them. That’s your Amazon Fire TV sticks and boxes, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, games consoles, Smart TVs, Mac or PC, and your iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

Once activated, your smart hub is always on and ready to go. It doesn’t affect Internet speeds, and it does everything automatically. If you need a different connection in a different country for someone in every room of your house? That’s no problem with StreamLocator. We don’t limit your connections like VPN and Smart DNS services do. It’s one more of the things that make us head and shoulders above other systems.

How to watch Discovery Plus from outside the United Kingdom

Discovery Plus’s servers block access to their content from anyone outside of their preferred regions. If you’re outside the UK and you desperately need to watch the next episode of 90 Day: The Single Life, then our smart hub will provide you with the virtual UK location you need.

The way streaming services know where you are is down to a system known as geo-location tracking. By pinpointing precisely where you are, they know who to let watch their latest shows, and who to block.

Until recently, the most popular ways to get around those blocks was by using VPN and Smart DNS services. However, they’re becoming more unreliable as the content providers become smarter at detecting them.

And now, there’s another, better way; StreamLocator provides a virtual location too—but by using far smarter technology than our competition.

How to register for Discovery Plus from outside the UK

You don’t have to register for Discovery + to access content, but you will need to sign up if you want to get your hands on the full catalogue.

With a subscription cost of less than £5 UK/month, there’s plenty of entertainment from all kinds of categories up for grabs.

You can sign up for a subscription on the website (with StreamLocator providing you with a virtual UK location) or using the app from Google’s UK Play Store or Apple’s UK App Store. This gives viewers an option of using Google or Apple UK giftcards if they have any problems with a non-native credit or debit card.

Do you need a VPN or DNS to watch Discovery Plus from outside the United Kingdom?

You need to provide Discovery Plus’s servers with a UK location, but it really doesn’t matter how you do that. VPN and Smart DNS are traditional methods, and now StreamLocator offers another.

What makes our system better, though, is that we don’t rely on a single technology—we access a range of workaround tech. When our smart hub connects with each streaming service, it finds out the best possible method to use and does it automatically. It’s so good you won’t even know it’s doing it.

How to unblock Discovery Plus

When you receive your StreamLocator smart hub, it’s easy to plug into your WiFi router; and it’s just as easy to activate your StreamLocator subscription. With those two simple steps taken care of, you’ll have a new network option in your WiFi list—STREAMLOCATOR.

Switch your devices over to that, and the job is done.

It really is that easy.

Does StreamLocator allow me to watch Discovery Plus for free?

As we said, Discovery Plus offers some free content, but to take advantage of its full catalogue you’ll need to pay for a subscription.
